The pandemic has recently halted most of our operations as an individual. Some of us had to adapt to a remote work setup and conduct our job-related activities at home. Others had it worse and were laid off from their jobs. This is how much Covid-19 has affected and continues to affect us.

If we cannot stop the virus, sooner or later, our lives might collapse. Yes, we could have it way worse if we don’t make a conscious effort towards fighting this pandemic. While the Covid-19 vaccine is the most effective solution, it doesn’t negate that as an individual, there’s something you can do to help this battle.

With that in mind, we want to provide you with this article and show you how to live our lives so that we get to access our basic needs while stopping the possible spread of Covid-19.

Basic Information About the Virus

Covid-19 is a newly discovered virus from the corona family. Both animals and humans transmit these viruses, and they are known to cause breathing complications and other lung-related conditions. However, severe effects of the SARS-CoV-2, otherwise known as Covid-19, do not end in the lungs. From various news articles, it seems as if the virus can worsen a person’s underlying health conditions.

To make matters worse, Covid-19 is easily transmitted from one person to another. Although the worst symptoms are commonly present in older people, the younger generation might still cause the virus to spread if they’re uncareful.

Covid-19 comes from an infected person’s saliva droplets or nose discharges through sneezing, coughing, and talking. While this may not be transmitted directly to another person, the virus can survive on surfaces for a few minutes, or worse, days. When another person touches this surface and touches his/her eyes, nose, or mouth, he/she will be infected. Furthermore, recent data have shown that Covid-19 could also possibly live in the air, making them airborne viruses.

Safety Tips

Because of how easily this virus is transmitted, much of the responsibility of preventing it lies in us. While getting vaccinated is still the best-case scenario, it would also be beneficial to follow the basic safety protocols.

1. Wear a Mask

Since Covid-19 comes from airborne compounds released from our mouth and nose, the best possible precautionary measure to stop it from spreading is to wear a mask. This will significantly reduce the distance it can travel, keeping other people a little safer from infection. However, you need to ensure that the mask you’re wearing is capable of blocking the virus.

2. Go shopping online

We need to reduce physical interaction as much as possible. That’s why we are all discouraged from going outside for leisure. This brings forth the question of getting your necessities. From clothes, electronics, food, health products, to services, it will be better if you access all of these through online shopping. This will guarantee that you won’t have to interact with anyone, and there’s also the convenience of having all of them delivered right to your doorstep.

3. Disinfect

Some of us have no choice but to step outside, especially those working and cannot adopt a remote setup. Because of this, we have to ensure that we disinfect regularly. Washing your hands with soap is the best option, but if that’s not available, hand-rubbing alcohol will also kill the virus in 30 seconds. Even if you are staying at home most of the time, the packaging of your take-out food and any product that comes from the outside world should be disinfected before it gets inside your home.

4. Keep a Safe Distance

Another effective measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is to keep a safe distance from other people. As we’ve mentioned, the virus can travel in the air, but it will not get far if all of us are wearing masks. This means that there’s a high possibility that the virus won’t reach you if you are not near another person.

5. Avoid Enclosed Spaces

Poor ventilation can also easily transmit the virus. That means that if you are in an air-conditioned room, Covid-19 has nowhere to go, which means that it circulates in the room. When you inhale these airborne compounds, you will get infected. That’s why rooms should always have their windows open to ensure that air can bring the virus outside and let it die a natural death.

Covid-19 is one of the most crippling things we’ve experienced in the last decade as a society. It has significantly reduced our capacity to function, not to mention the detrimental effect it has on our mental, emotional, and physical health. It’s time that we turn the tables around. In this fight against an unseen enemy, following the basic safety protocols is our best chance as of the moment.
